Things to do

Whether it is walking, photgraphy or bug hunting, there are plenty of things to do along the arm other than restoration!

Walking – The 6.7 mile canal provides a good stretch of the legs for walkers, but of couTring Reservoir Trails Signrse, it’s a straight line, so those who walk from one end to the other need to walk back the same distance back to return to their starting point!  As such, you might want to break up your walk into manageable sections and come back on future days to walk a different section.  We’d suggest Wendover – Aston Clinton, Aston Clinton to Tring, Tring to Bulbourne as your three visits. Each has it’s own beauty, with Wendover to Aston Clinton being alongside the undeveloped part of the canal, and Tring to Bulbourne seeing the completed restoration work.  Aston Clinton to Tring will see you alongside the current works so you can see where how our efforts are getting along.

Wildlife - The canal, being “out in the country” is a hive of activity for wildlife, whether it be the ubiqitous ducks and swans, or a resting heron, there’s normally plenty to see.  For little ones the canal runs alongside cow and sheep fields, whilst for those seeking more exotic they can look up for the circling red kites, or down to the fish hiding amongst the boats and reeds.

Photography – If you are a keen photographer then the opportunities are endless along the canal.  Herons resting on the bank, reflections across the water, cruisers enjoying a lazy afternoon.  And we’re always on the look out for new photos for our website, so if you think you can be our unofficial photographer then do send us some of your favourite pics and we’ll try and find a place for them on our website.

What else do you do along the canal? let us know!

A great trip. Seen Kingfishers, Herons, Stoat, and possibly a Polecat (one has been reported seen at the College Lake nature Reserve near Bulbourne).
